After a given project is complete, students formally evaluate themselves and their project.Students in this course have the opportunity to formally evalutate themselves 4 times throughout the semester. By the end of the semester students have a better understanding of their developmental skills in the area of sewing skills and time management.
KSD Knowledge 8.K.2 The teacher knows how to select, construct, and use assessment strategies and instruments appropriate to the learning outcomes being evaluated and to other diagnostic purposes.
For the clothing skills class, students must use the correct instruments and strategies to construct the various projects. These instruments and strategies are new to the students in the class.Instead of becoming overwhelmed by all the things there are to learn, the students use the weekly plan sheets to process the lessons I have planned into something they can understand and accomplish daily. Skills 8.S.3 The teacher uses assessment strategies to involve learners in self-assessment activities, to help them become aware of their strengths and needs, and to help them to set personal goals for learning.
Since this is a course that builds on earlier learning, the self assessment tools such as the rubrics helps the students see their strengths and areas of improvement. Then using the weekly plan sheet, they set personal goals for continued learning. Disposition 8.D.1 The teacher values ongoing assessment as essential to the instructional process and recognizes that many different assessment strategies, accurately and systematically used, are necessary for monitoring and promoting student learning.
Even though this course teaches students how to sew, it also teaches planning and time management. The students use the weekly plan throughout the entire semester course and are assessed on monitoring their learning week to week.
